Glacier National Park Books

Glacier National Park, in Northwest Montana’s Flathead area, is one of the most beautiful parks in the United States. Often called “The Crown of the Continent” for its majestic mountain peaks and Triple Divide Peak, Glacier Park saddles the Continental Divide of the Americas or the “Great Divide” splitting the east drainage from the west and Northern or Laurentian Divide that splits North and South. Triple Divide Peak is so named because it feeds 3 oceans, the Atlantic, Pacific, and Arctic Oceans (via Hudson Bay).

Hiking and backpacking in Glacier Park’s 600 plus miles of trails areĀ  major attractions of the park. Hiking trails range from handicap accessible Trail of the Cedars to more difficult 10-12 mile trails with 3000′ to 4000′ elevation change. But all offer magnificent scenery and the possibility of wildlife viewing.

The main highway going east to west is the 52 mile Going to the Sun Road (Highway). Going to the Sun Road offers sightseeing, hiking and backpacking, camping, wildlife and photo opportunities.
